WordPress SEO and Site Speed Help Your Ranking

Many WordPress users use the outstanding Yoast SEO Plugin to optimize their WordPress site for SEO.

Yoast SEO is a great product but there is still much that needs to be done to optimize your WordPress website for SEO.

Techniques to supercharge your WordPress SEO.

Site Speed Is Vital If You Want High Rankings and User Satisfaction Including Initial Time To First Load.

Test your site speed for free at Gtmetrix or Google Page Speed

Install A Caching Plugin
W3 Total Cache, Zen Cache, Rocket, Autoptimize, WPFC, and others will do a good job ca
ching your site as well and minifying CSS, Javascript and HTML.

Use GZip Compression
By compressing your WordPress site with GZip, you will speed up your website tremendously. Ask you webhost to upgrade you to the latest version of PHP. That’ll make WordPress fly.

Image Compression
Often overlooked. Use an image compression plug-in to decrease your load time especially if you have many images or infographics. A standard SEO best practice is to add appropriate keywords to the alt image tags.  There are many image compression systems available. Implement a lossless compression first. If they look good you may want to try a lossy system,

Deactivate Plugins You Rarely Use
By activating plugins only when you need to use them, you are clearing out overhead that will slow down your WordPress load time.

Clean Up Your Database
Cleaning out the databases of spam, old drafts, and other remnants will slim down your database and make your site a bit faster.

Pick A Theme That Doesn’t Slow Your Site
Use a responsive SEO friendly theme. Keep is simple and speedy.

Meta Titles & Description Tags
Meta Titles is a major SEO factor. Your Meta Title and <H1> header should never be the same.

Schema, JSON, and Rich Snippets
All In One Schema.org Rich Snippets allows you to better inform Google which rich snippet to show in your listing. Schema.org has a plugin which will allow you to quickly create schema code. Use a JSON plugin to code that into your site. That is what Google recommends.

Mobile-Friendliness
Make your site mobile-friendly. Google is swiftly rolling out its mobile-first index.

Prevent Spam
Protect Your Blog From Spam.  Use AkismetWordfence Security provides anti-virus protection, a firewall. and a high-speed cache.

You Need an XML Sitemap
Create an XML Sitemap to submit to Google Search Console which will help Google. I do use Yoast SEO for sitemaps.

Use A CDN (Content Delivery Network)
A CDN is a service that will speed up the time it takes your website to load for a user because a CDN uses the server closest to the user.

Permalink Structure
Ensure your permalink structure to something SEO-friendly and keep the permalinks short and relevant, 3-4 words is good.

Other WordPress SEO tips:
  • Find a fast hosting service.
  • Devise an internal linking strategy.
  • If you have a popular post update it and keep adding more content.
  • Use proper header structure.
  • Don’t install and activate too many plugins at the same time. Try to keep the maximum number of plugins activated under 15.

Citation Directories For Local SEO

Most people in the Search Engine Optimization industry know that local search, mobile search, and customer reviews & testimonials are extremely important ranking factors to Google in 2018 and are also very significant to searchers as well.

Below is a list of various Local Citation Directory links to submit your business listings to that will allow you to increase your SEO and Google rankings.  Most of these directories have a free submission with paid add-on services.

If you do not have the time to manually submit Moz Local SEO Listings or BrightEdge.com Local is an excellent bang for your buck. I would stay away from Yext.

The most important thing to note when submitting your information to these directories is to be extremely consistent with your business name, address, phone number and website (NAP) or (NAPW).  If you input different business names, phone numbers or addresses that will confuse the search engines and your listing will not appear as high in the search engine page rankings as you otherwise would.

Many of these services will allow you to post profile pictures and links to social media sites like Facebook Pages, Twitter Accounts, Pinterest Accounts, Google+ Accounts, WordPress and Blogger blogs so should set up those profiles before you begin submitting to the local directories.

Many of these sites will want you to submit to certain business categories, some more than one category and will also allow you to choose certain keywords that pertain to your business.  Fill in as much information as you possibly can in order for your profile to be as complete as possible.

Some of these sites may only allow you to post your information through a service like Yext (which charges $500), if so, skip it and move on unless it is worth it to you to have a service do the data entry rather than yourself or a freelancer.

Local SEO Connecticut Directories

1.  Google My Business –  Vital to have site listed & verified by GMB.
2.  Yelp.com – Avoid if possible. Will constantly try to sell you PPC.
3.  FourSquare.com
4.  Yahoo Small Business Directory – Part of Yext Now.
5.  Moz.com – MOZ has a Local SEO service for about $100/year.
6.  Bing Business Local
7.  YP.com
8.  Manta.com
9.  Merchant Circle
10. Brownbook.com
11. Yext.com – Paid Service about $500/ year covers about 100 sites but listings disappear if you don’t pay.
12. Yellow Pages
13. Local.com
14. BrightLocal
15. gravatar.com
16. Localeze
17. Insider Pages
18. Facebook Business Pages
19. Expertfile.com
20. HotFrog.com
21. Superpages
22. White Pages
23. Angie’s List
24. LinkedIn
25. YouTube

I recommend creating profiles at local niche directory sites if they will allow you to put links to your business, personal and social sites for free.  Basically, any site that you are signed up for that lets you post a profile you should use it as an opportunity to publicize your business and get SEO rankings and higher SEO keyword rank in the search engines.

These sites are just a beginning for excellent local SEO.

For Optimum Local SEO Be Prepared To Submit NAP

Remember, be consistent with NAP Name Address and Phone Number.  If your listings are inconsistent it may confuse the search engines.

Company Owner and/or Contact Person

Suite/Office (if any – be consistent):

City:

State:

ZipCode:

Business Primary Phone Number (Use a consistent format across local directories)

Business Fax Number

Business 800 Phone Number

Business Categories – Input as many relevant categories as the site will let you.

Keywords – Input as many relevant keywords as the site will let you.

Website Address It is not necessary to have a website to submit to these local services although strongly recommended even if it is a Facebook, WordPress or Blogger page.

Primary Email Address

Products/Services

Payment Methods Accepted

Company logo (if any) – If you don’t  have a  logo you can get one made at Fiverr.com

Service Areas – Post your local area and surrounding towns

Business Location Images

Video URL’s – Youtube.com videos describing your business or service can really help. You can also create your own YouTube channel if you have many videos.  Youtube allows you to post up to five links to websites or blogs although I believe only 1 is do follow.
